I love taking pictures and have been fortunate to been doing since Mr. Greenhut taught us how to photograph and develop film in the basement of Wagner Junior High on East 76th Street. Thank you Mr. Greenhut!
My first memorable photos were of a mean looking balloon seller by Central Park and a very out-of-focus close-up of a fly at the United Nations. Since then, I have been assigned to photograph giant nocturnal spiders in the Amazon, New York’s most famous chefs, the interiors of some of the finest homes, and almost everything in between.
I am still a New York City based photographer with many years of experience in editorial and fine art projects. I have been awarded a Fulbright scholarship for documenting Stalin era industrial facilities in Siberia, grants from NYSCA, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Graham Foundation. I was twice a presenter at TEDx talks on the culture of pigeons and the wildflowers that grown in New York City .
I am also the photographer of ten books, including:
New York Art Deco: Birds, Beast & Blooms (Rizzoli), Wildflowers of New York (Cornell University Press), The New York Pigeon (powerHouse), New York by Neighborhood (Rizzoli), Subway Style (New York Transit Authority), and The Houseboat Book (Rizzoli). And soon to come, Brooklyn Arcadia: Art, History and Nature at Historic Green-Wood (Rizzoli)
I am always looking for new projects!
